Alberta is one of the three Canadian Prairie Provinces and is known as the “energy province”. Edmonton is the capitol and along with Calgary they are the two largest cities in the province. There are over three million people in Alberta and there are many of German, Ukrainian, French, Dutch and Scandinavian descent. Alberta grew when the railroad was built in 1883 and continues to grow today through the oil and gas industry.

There is much to see and do in Alberta like paddle one of the three rivers, the Peace River, North and South Saskatchewan River and the Athabasca River. You can visit the in Banff and Jasper National Parks or Wood Buffalo National Park that is home to about 2200 endangered wood buffalo. The nearby Rocky Mountains provide opportunities for hiking, skiing and sightseeing.
