The Natural State

Arkansas is a state with over 600,000 acres of lakes and 9,740 miles of streams. The state is about equally divided between lowlands and highlands. Arkansas has the nation's highest peaks, cleanest air, pure water and mild seasonal temperatures. The crime rate is low and the schools are excellent. There are many relaxing activities to participate in whether visiting or living in Arkansas such as hiking, fishing, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and rafting.

High tech businesses plus "ma and pa" operations keep the economy going along with the natural offerings like the wide variety of minerals. The annual production is valued in excess of $1,000,000,000. Petroleum, natural gas, and bromine are the top three minerals produced. The state leads the nation in production of bauxite from which aluminum is made. Arkansas ranks first in production of bromine (about one-half of the world's output) and in silica stone. The home of the only diamond mine open to the public in the world is Murfreesboro. There are many other mineral deposits such as barite, ceramic clay, chalk, gypsum, glass sand, limestone to name a few. A wide range of finished items like color TVs, clothing, furniture, prepared foods, chemicals, aircraft components, communications equipment, boats, electric motors, machine tools, and pulp and paper products are produced in Arkansas today too.
