Virginia is one of the top ten coal producers in the United States and coal accounts for roughly 70% of Virginia's mineral value. Additional mining products include crushed stone, sand, gravel, lime and kyanite.

Agriculture remains an important sector with agricultural products that include tomatoes, tobacco, peanuts, apples, summer potatoes, sweet potatoes, snap beans, turkeys and a large dairy industry.
